In lyrical/contemporary dance classes, students learn to use their bodies in a variety of ways. They combine the styles of modern, ballet and jazz, reflecting the melting pot nature of dance. The classes focus on breathing, free body movement, and mind-body connection. Lyrical and contemporary are mainly about conveying the emotion and story behind the song. Students may learn choreographed works, or they may be encouraged to improvise dance pieces.

Beauty, strength, grace, and poise are essential in the elements of ballet. Ballet can be mastered by itself or used as a strong foundation or supplement to other styles of dance. It improves posture, balance, and agility. Classes focus on overall body alignment, specifically concentrating on the awareness of the feet and legs and execution of turnout. A strong carriage and proper usage of the upper body is also focused on. Traditional barre work, center work and combinations are included in all classes. Ballet is popular among beginners and experts and is recommended for all.

Hip hop is a remarkable high-energy cardio workout that calls for physical strength and endurance, with a good sense of rhythms and beats. It provides a fun-energetic class environment and a more relaxed one than other dance styles. It includes the latest music in rap, R & B and pop and together creates some awesome energetic movement. Hip hop is diverse; it’s street, it’s heavy and is always progressing. Shoes are required. Hot shorts are not permitted.

Tap is an exciting form of dance where dancers use their feet like drums to create rhythmic patterns and timely beats. Tap dancers do this by placing metal plates on the bottom of special shoes that provide the variety of rhythms and sounds. Our tap classes emphasize the basic progressions of tap technique and strengthen the development of proper terminology and importance of sound. Classes include choreographed works as well as freestyle that will teach students about the importance and intricacy of rhythm. Tap concentrates on intricate footwork which creates incredible percussion through the feet. Just as singers add rhythm to their music by scatting, tap dancers add their voice by “scatting” with their feet.

Jazz is energetic, fun, and full of life. It consists of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. To successfully progress in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet as it encourages grace and balance. Jazz classes focus on body isolations, proper terminology, basic jazz technique, as well as the development of personal style. Also, included in every jazz class are across the floor and center combinations that are taught and performed to popular contemporary music.

Turns and Progressions is a class of conditioning combinations center and across the floor. They incorporate core exercises, turns, jumps, and extensions. This is a wonderful class to improve your technique because it focuses mainly on technical issues where there is no recital piece for this class.

Zumba is the latest dancer fitness craze! It combines high energy and motivating hit music with unique Latin-inspired moves. It is recommended for ALL participants, dancers AND non-dancers. Zumba is a “feel-happy” fun and effective workout, great for the body and mind-get ready to SWEAT!
Students are encouraged to explore acting through dance while working on movement, dancing with strength, and "selling" a dance number. Musical theater classes mainly focus on the elements of jazz and ballet technique. Musical theater technique combinations are taught and students concentrate on bringing characterization and execution of proper technique to the pieces.
